Chinese ZodiacThe Chinese Zodiac is deep-seated on a twelve-year cycle --- each year being represented by an animal that reveals particular personality of the person.

In fact, in China, this is just an alternative way to say how old you are! Instead of asking your age, people may ask you questions like "what do you belong to?" It means- what is your Zodiac? You are supposed to belong to the Kingdome of one of the twelve animals! Those are Mouse -- Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. This is Chinese Zodiac.

Many Chinese believe that the year of a person's birth is the primary factor in determining that person's personality traits, physical and mental attributes and degree of success and happiness throughout his lifetime.
=============================

Jikkan Junishi --literally 10 stems and 12 branches refers to the Chinese zodiac symbols. These 10 divine stems referred yin-yang principles and the elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
The 12 earthly branches included 12 animals: the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and wild boar.
The lunar calendar has a 60 years cycle. In the Chinese horoscope, the five basic elements of Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth, are combined with the 12 animal signs of Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Lamb, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig form the sixty year cycle.
