
Nanjing
remained as a successive power of 10 dynasties and was a celebrated ancient
capital in China so the city is famed as the "the Capital of Ten
Dynasties". One of the historical and cultural cities in the world,
Nanjing is also known as a "Stone City".
Nestling on the lower reaches of River Yangtze towards the east of China,
Nanjing is 300 km away from Shanghai, 1200 km from Beijing, 1400 km from
Chongqing.
The city is the capital of the Jiangsu province and over the years it has
developed as a political, economic and cultural centers of the region.
Today, Nanjing is a popular tourist destination in China. Major tourist
attractions here are the Ten-li Qinhuai River and the Confucius Temple area.
Its location on the bank of the Yangtze River, and its connectivity with the
Great Canal, has made it a famous hanging out joint of the locals. The city
has the total population of 5.29 million extending over an area of 6,516 sq.
km, whereas 2.73 million enjoys the status as urban population.
Nanjing Temptation
Mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen
Horizontal on mountain slope at the foothills of Mount Zijin, the mausoleum
appearance imperial and sublime.
The main source of attraction for the tourists is the 4.6-m high sculpture
of Mr. Sun, elevated in the center of the hall. The statue was carved out of
white marble brought from Italy. The mausoleum showcases the episodes about
the gratifying life of Mr. Sun. Another statue of Sun lying in
the bell shaped vault, in a sleeping posture carved out of white marble is
also one the captivating sights.
Out side the hall, there stands a huge bronze Ding- an ancient Chinese
vessel symbolizing power, crowning on a 3 layer stone.

Nanjing Museum
The museum is an opulent reservoir of China's history and culture with
artifacts stretching over to 5,000 years of history. Pre-historic potteries,
bronzes, jewelry along with 2,000-year-old gemstone funeral apparels are
worth noticing.
Qin Huai River:
Qin Huai River is another hanging out zone in Nanjing. It extends over
110-km stretch, towards the southwest of the city.
One can enjoy the glimpse of decorated painted boats shuttling to and fro
along with a soothing music echoing the whole arena. These painted boats are
remarkable attraction among the tourist, whether large or small, every boat
is beautifully festooned with colorful lanterns. Taking a cruise on the blue
waters across the river and knowing about the ancient history of the city is
a most delightful experience.
In recent times the river Qin Huai has been revived and stimulated with
beautiful lanterns decorated high all around and music played streets, which
has developed as most hang out zone among its visitors.
Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum
The mausoleum nestles at the northern foot of Mount Zijin. It took almost
25 years in its construction and more then 100 thousand skilled workmen,
incurring a tremendous amount of expenditure. There were more then 5000
military troops to guard the mausoleum at the time of its construction. The
wall enclosing this magnificent complex is about more then 22.5 km long.

Best time To Visit
The city has a subtropical monsoon climate zone enjoying the charm of 4
seasons---winters, summers, autumn and rainy season. The days are absolutely
frost-free through out the year. Best Season to visit: late autumn

Nanjing is well connected by airways to most of the countries around. Lukou
International Airport, Nanjing is about 35 km from the main city. One can
get tourist cabs from the airport for the city that takes you to your
destination in not more then 35 minutes.
